Shenoy said that typically you will see a flashing or flickering light in the center of your vision. The symptoms vary from person to person, but Dr. When you get a migraine in that part of the brain, then you experience visual symptoms.” Symptoms of an ophthalmic or ocular migraine “There’s a part of the brain-the occipital cortex-that processes your vision. “Your brain has different sections that do different things,” said Sudhir Shenoy, MD, an ophthalmologist on the medical staff at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Round Rock. This type of migraine is a disturbance in the visual part of the brain. ![]() While a painless migraine may seem like a better option, an ophthalmic migraine (or ocular migraine) can be just as disruptive. While that is the case for many people who are living with migraines, there is a type of migraine that could be painless. which can be neurological OR vestibular in nature, as well.We all think of a migraine as a piercing, just-want-go-back-to-bed pain that makes you miserable. I also get the nystagmus though (where my eyes rapidly shake back and forth on their own). I will need my vestibular system checked once I am covered, too. I think an ear/nose/throat specialist may be able to help you! Or at least they could rule that out for you. Do your ears feel full by any chance? Do they ever pop? It could simply be an infection of the middle or inner ear, OR if the symptoms stick around for a long time and are chronic, it could even be a vestibular disorder, such as meniere's disease. Headaches, pressure, tinnitus, vertigo can be caused by inner ear issues (your vestibular/ balance system). A lot of these problems are usually suspected to be neurological in nature but if CT and MRI's appear normal and all of that, an ear/nose/throat specialist may be the person to see. you should look into getting your ***vestibular system*** checked out if you have not already. but for you, since you were seeing doctors and that. SCOTTIO, I also wanted to point out to you too. No worsened headaches have ever accompanied the odd visual disturbances. so I don't know if these are only ocular migraines, or attributed to something else. I am only DX with Fibromyalgia but it is strongly thought that I have autoimmune disease(s), as well. So I'm just wondering if anyone on here has ever experienced something like any of these symptoms, and have been diagnosed with anything in particular. Has anyone ever had anything like this!? I'm working on getting health insurance coverage at the mo, after struggling without it for yrs now. all in rainbow colors! It really looked like a kaleidoscope! It went away within 20 minutes though, and no worsened headache accompanied it at all. Either way, when I would close both of them, I would see colorful rainbow shapes dancing around together. so it seemed to be an issue in both eyes. It stayed to the left of me always, but when I would cover each eye up at a time, it was always there. It looked like rainbow-colored lines floating around up above my left eye. Recently, I experienced an all new visual issue in which I have never had before. The vertigo has not occurred for about 2 yrs now (knock on wood)! but the visual disturbances still come and go. I think some people describe it as see-saw vision? But even back then, no worsened headache ever accompanied it. Beforehand, I would see things as wavy lines or zig-zags. The vision disturbances often used to come with severe bouts of vertigo, to which I couldn't even stand up without falling down and hurting myself- had to stay in bed all day long. ![]() But anyway, that's sort of a different story. But I have been thought in the past to have MS because I also get severe vertigo and nystagmus too (where my eyes rapidly shake back and forth on their own), along with a huge list of other neurological symptoms. On top of that, I have had odd vision disturbances for I would say 3 years now, on and off. Severe pressure in head, and constant, persistent tinnitus (ringing in ears) accompanies it always. has never once gone away, just the intensity changes at times. I'm a sufferer of an on-going headache for about 5 or 6 yrs now. ![]()
